[CAP] Apple Prohibits Emergency Warning on iPhone 3G?

The same language is included in the legalese of almost every integrated
circuit ever made. We all know that ICs are used in nuclear reactors, life
support and public warning systems. The fine print doesn't even keep them
from being used in spacecraft (the ultimate critical life-support system).
All they are saying is, in the high-stakes world, if somebody sues you, even
if it was their component that failed, you're on your own.
Art's suggested caveat (strengthened by appropriate lawyers specializing in
tort law) is more than appropriate. In today's litigious society, it's a
corporate survival necessity. And be aware of a few state laws which
prohibit the enforcement of such caveats, or limit their effect. For all of
their alarmist rhetoric, Apple won't be protected there, either.
All that said, if you're skittish about taking chances, then emergency
management probably isn't your ideal career choice. Personally, I'd rather
risk a lawsuit than have to say at the end of the day that I saw the danger
and did nothing. Others in this business are risking an awful lot more. The
least I can do is try to give them some tools.
Even on an iPhone.
